October 21st, 2008 – Virtualization for Disaster In the beginning, for Intel and other PC–type server designs, the basic rule was one application running on one server. As hardware improved and software matured, the norm changed to one application running on many servers. As hardware has continued to improve and software is being component, a new norm is to have many services and applications running either on a single server or a fleet of servers.
